Soham suffered their second consecutive 2-0 defeat, as Romford completed a League double against the Greens.

Having lost by the same score line at Waltham Abbey two days earlier, Soham made three changes to the line-up as Chris Lindsay, Martin Bromwich and Ben Sawyer returned.
With Romford having been held up on route to the ground, the game was delayed by ten minutes to allow everyone to prepare.

First half play regularly changed ends with Sharman seeing an early shot blocked before Sawyer worked his way into the area from the right only to fire into the side netting. Twenty minutes in, Reynolds laid the ball off to Richardson, but his effort was kept out by Ordonez, who made a low save to push the ball away from goal, with Jones having a header blocked from the resultant Woodward corner. McCabe, Harradine and Jones all had opportunities before Sawyer came closest to opening the scoring three minutes before the break when he was released down the left, turning the defence twice to lift the ball over Omand, with his shot coming back off the far post back into the keeper’s arms. As the game entered stoppage time, Jones received a ball down the left, with his shot going across the face of goal and wide of the far post.

It was a largely uneventful opening to the second half with Ordonez punching clear Woodward’s freekick with Lindsay blocking Jones’ follow-up shot. Both sides then made changes as Romford brought on Ryan Imbert for Robbie Norris, whilst Soham gave a debut to U18 and Reserve team attacker Mason Newman for Buster Harradine. The visitors broke the deadlock just before the midway point of the second half when Reynolds flicked the ball into the area for Danny Jones who placed under Ordonez. Within minutes Lindsay had the opportunity for an equaliser but headed Newman’s corner wide before Michael Simpson came on for Ryan Sharman. However with fourteen minutes remaining, the visitors secured the victory by scoring their second of the night when following a quick break Richardson was allowed to turn in midfield and deliver a ball towards the edge of the area where Tom Richardson scored with a first time shot. That was the striker’s last action of the game, as he, along with Jones were replaced by Eddie Hart and Tiago Viera Da Cruz. Following another quick attack, Boro came close to a third shortly after, but from Hart’s ball, Richardson placed just wide. Late on, Soham pushed forward looking to get something from the game as Bromwich dipped a shot over, with the midfielder then playing in Wood, whose shot was blocked by Omand, whilst Newman also put over from Simpson’s knockdown.

This was Soham’s fifth defeat in their last six games, and first at home since the end of September but remain third in the table, having played more games than the sides around them in the table.
